Our History
'Deaths at Work: Accidents or Corporate Crime' published
In the 1980s and 1990s, INQUEST's remit covered deaths at work. Casework inlcuded supporting the families of those who died at work due to negligence and poor working conditions.
Research for this booklet was born out of the Hazards Movement and the Construction Safety Campaign in 1987.
Deaths at Work served to put the issue of corporate criminal accountability after workplace deaths on the political agenda.
A collaborative effort with the London Hazards Centre and the Workers' Educational Association, the booklet set out to:
- Explain failures in the investigation systems which were allowing companies to escape the reach of criminal law
- Propose changes in police and health and safety law
- To act as a handbook for lawyers, trades unions and bereaved families
