Our History
First INQUEST meeting
On 11 April 1981, members of the Richard Campbell, Jimmy Kelly, Matthew O'Hara and Blair Peach campaigns gathered in London. They proposed a united campaign that would be called INQUEST: United Campaigns for Justice.
The initial purpose of the campaign was to demand a public inquiry into the failures and contradictions exposed through these family campaigns, and other aims around detention, legal aid and treatment of bereaved families.

The charter of the organisation was not formalised until November 1982. Click below to read about the purposes, structure and governance of the organisation.
