INQUEST Lawyers Group founded
Several lawyers were involved with INQUEST from the early days, such as Louise Christian, Ruth Bundey, Terry Munyard and Tim Owen.
In 1991, the organisation formalised its relationship with barristers and solictors through the creation of the INQUEST Lawyers Group (ILG).
The aim of the group was to promote more critical engagement with inquest procedures by providing information and training on inquest law. This was in response to the fact that very few lawyers would take on inquest cases, in part due to there being no legal aid funding for inquests.
The ILG was set up to provide legal support for families by building a reserve of lawyers who could offer largely pro-bono representation at inquests.
