20-52 play about Leon Patterson at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe
In 1992, Leon Patterson died in police custody in Stockport.
As part of her campaign, Leon's twin sister, Stephanie Lightfoot-Bennett, put on a play at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 1995. 20-52 was written and directed by Jeremy Weller, part of the Grassmarket Project, an Edinburgh-based community theatre company. The play won a Scotsman Fringe First Award.
Named after the 'prisoner at risk' form, 20-52 was about Stephanie's journey to establish the truth about what happened to her brother. Playing herself in the play, Stephanie said that
... reliving the death and pain every day on stage was hard, but it was also my way of coping and getting what happened to Leon recognised.
